  18. What's in the distribution?
  19. =======================================================================
  20. This distribution contains Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 drivers, and 
  21. 3dfx Tools for Windows 95/98. The DirectDraw portion of the drivers 
  22. supports Direct3D when using DirectX 7.

  24. NOTE: DirectX 7 redistributable files should be used with these 
  25. drivers!

  28. Installation

  31. Requirements

  34. - Windows 95/98
  35. - PC with an Intel Pentium series or AMD K6/7 series processor
  36. - A free AGP or PCI slot
  37. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested
  38.  
  39. Fresh Installation 
  40. ------------------

  42. NOTE: Complete Steps 1 and 2 before removing your existing 2D card.
  43.  
  44. 1) Extract the files for the Voodoo driver to a directory.
  45. 2) Before removing your existing 2D card switch the video driver to 
  46.    Standard VGA. Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click on Display.

  48.    Select 640X480 and 16 colors.  Accept the changes.
  49.  
  50. 3) Power off the system and remove your existing 2D card.
  51. 4) Install the Voodoo card in a free AGP or PCI Slot
  52. 5) Power on the system and verify that video appears during post.
  53. 6) Start Windows in Normal mode
  54.  
  55.   (Once Windows starts you may be notified that no video device
  56.    exists, click Cancel if this message appears)
  57.  
  58. 7) Go to the directory where you put the Voodoo driver, run 
  59.    the executable file Setup.exe.  Click SETUP.  At the welcome 
  60.    screen of 3dfx Tools, select NEXT.  Click on YES when prompt to 
  61.    install Voodoo driver.
  62. 8) Follow instruction on the screen to install Voodoo driver 
  63.    and 3dfx Tools Control Panel.
  64. 9) Select 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' when prompted.
  65. 10) Install DirectX 7.x.

  68. Upgrade Existing Voodoo drivers

  71. 1) Start Windows 95/98
  72. 2) Extract the files for the Voodoo driver to a directory.
  73. 3) Go to the directory where you put the Voodoo driver, run 
  74.    the executable file Setup.exe.  Click SETUP.  At the welcome 
  75.    screen of 3dfx Tools, select NEXT.  Click on YES when prompt to 
  76.    install Voodoo driver.
  77. 4) Follow instruction on the screen to install Voodoo driver 
  78.    and 3dfx Tools Control Panel.
  79. 5) Select 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' when prompted.

  83. Limitations

  86. Running 640x480 16 Color will run SUPERVGA.DRV or VGA.DRV.  No 
  87. Voodoo features will be used.  Switch to a different resolution 
  88. or color depth.  Full windowed hardware acceleration with this version 
  89. of the drivers is only possible when running at 16bpp modes.

  96. Problem: After installing the card, the system still detects my old 
  97. card even though it is no longer in the system.
